I don’t remember who said it, but I love the quote:
“You will never truly experience the world until you create your own path.”
The quote seems to resonate with my underlying theme to creating art: I create whatever makes me happy and (try) not to worry about the end result. I enjoy designing motifs for print patterns, painting in watercolor, acrylics, alcohol inks, and making gel plate prints for use in collage painting. These designs can be incorporated into my mosaics too.
I became interested in mosaics in 2018, and micro mosaics in 2024. I love to share what I’ve learned and mosaics are fun to create! Depending on the medium you use for mosaic jewelry, it doesn’t take long to finish a piece and can be a great beginning to get into the world of mosaics!
My art style is mostly expressive and whimsical, using vibrant colors and bold lines. I like mosaics because I’m able to collect all kinds of tesserae (pieces you use to create your mosaic) like pre-made tiles, jewelry pieces, old dishes, broken glass, sea shells, etc., and incorporate those things into my designs. Teaching encourages me to continue creating and allows me to meet new people and inspire them to believe in their creative abilities even when they think they have none. I teach myself what I want to know and when I learn exactly how to do something, or discover why and how certain materials are used, I get jazzed up and I want to share that knowledge with others.
I currently lead paint night classes, what I call “Paint and Nibble” events. I also teach Mosaic Jewelry workshops and Mosaic Basics classes. I’m also involved with the children’s summer arts camps hosted by Bower Center for the Arts. I just love sharing creative outlets with others!
